Engagement: Sarah & Dalia

From Sarah: Dalia and I have been together for eight years! She proposed to me last May in New Orleans – our second city, a favorite place. It was sweet and private ( and a complete surprise!) but we wanted our engagement photoshoot to reflect us at home – walking down the street to the beach in Miami Beach, and hanging out in the art district – Wynwood, Miami. It felt natural to be around places we go all the time! We had so much fun scouting out beautiful and sometimes strange murals in Wynwood (peek our romantic shot in front of a zombie Krusty the Clown mural! lol) and walking to the ocean with our feet in the sand before our toes reached the water.

Engagement: Sarah & Allie

From the couple: Allie and I met three years ago when we were both working at Cornell University. We intentionally chose to travel back to Ithaca for our engagement shoot because so many places, people, and memories are rooted to our individual, and collective, time within that community.

After our surprise double proposals (Allie, in Vietnam; Sarah, in Bali) in February 2017, we have been keeping incredibly busy with a new job + house + rescue pup that have occupied much of our free time.

We are so excited to begin planning our wedding and look forward to a lifetime of adventures surrounded by those we hold dear.

Engagement: Rae & Jenn

From the couple: After a glamping getaway in our California hometown – coupled with a surprise engagement…we later embarked on a country-side escape for our idealic engagement photo session. The North Georgia country-scape provided the perfect backdrop to capture our urban-meets-country flair!

Engagement: Natalie & Susanna

From the couple:

How We Met
Natalie and Susanna met at the University of the Pacific after a Pep Band gig. Susanna was in charge of the instrument closet and was bringing Natalie’s roommate an instrument to borrow. For years Susanna thought she was carrying a tenor saxophone, and Natalie said it was a trombone. True to form, Natalie was right.

After a year of friendship, Natalie and Susanna started taking a music history course together on Romanticism. It was through that course and their camaraderie in their music fraternity that they began to fall in love. (It didn’t hurt that Susanna had to borrow Natalie’s textbook constantly either!)

At first it was a cute joke. Natalie soon become Susanna’s fake girlfriend because everything in the universe seemed to say they should be together. From their love of The Court Jester to sharing the same shoe size and a love of words and grammar, they seemed to be a perfect match.

Within a month of “fake dating” they realized that what they had was real, and with a bit of pushing from friends and some liquid courage they moved from “fake dating” to just dating.

The Proposal
Four years later, Susanna and Natalie knew that they both wanted to propose to each other, so they decided that one would go first, and the other would go right after. Like the planners they are, they decided they would go to University of the Pacific, where they first met, to propose. Conveniently, Susanna had a choir concert in Stockton the night of 9/24, so they went to Pacific after the concert. (Well, after they had a drink first so they weren’t as nervous…)

When they were “fake girlfriends,” Susanna would walk Natalie to her car after their Romanticism class. Susanna would even carry Natalie’s books for her while walking to her car! They went back to that classroom after 4 years of absence and started their walk. Most of what was said on the walk is now a blur, but the part Natalie remembers the most is when Susanna said, “When we were walking to your car 4 year ago, I had no idea that I was walking with my future wife.” She stopped walking, turned to Natalie and said, “Will you marry me?” And through much crying she said, “Yes! Of course!”

Then it was Natalie’s turn! She took Susanna on a walk to a beautiful part of campus called The Columns. It is a circle of Ionic columns, with circular benches all around. Natalie wanted to bring Susanna there because the architecture reminded her of their trip to Italy together, and how in love they felt there. She had always wanted to bring Susanna back to Rome to propose by the Pantheon, and the columns reminded her of their special place. She took out a card, and handed it to Susanna. The card talked about some of the themes from their Romanticism class, and how the music they listened to was circular in form, with no end, just like their relationship. At the end of the card, she wrote, “Will you marry me? Check yes or no!” Of course, she forgot to bring a pen! But Susanna had one and checked yes.

Engagement: Link & Lupe

From Erin, Link and Lupe’s photographer: Not too long ago, I had the great pleasure of meeting Link and Lupe for the first time. Referred by a mutual friend, they contacted me about photographing their engagement session, and intimate wedding to be held in Boston. Link and Lupe were planning to get married in Boston prior to their move to Massachusetts from California. So, after many emails back and forth, and a few phone calls, we had a plan! For their engagement session, we decided to meet up in Amherst, for coffee at Amherst Coffee HA!, because well, COFFEE!!! What followed was a stroll at the Emily Dickinson Museum, and then a gorgeous hike beside the river, and in the woods at The Robert Frost Trail.

The images captured during Link and Lupe’s engagement session, tell the story of the true, deep love that Link & Lupe share…you can see and feel their connection, their commitment to one another. From the gentle tenderness of a hand upon the skin, to that moment of lingering just before a kiss…it all says so much. This kind of deep love, this human connection is what I hope we are all able to find in this life. Thank you Link and Lupe!

Engagement: Jenn & Allie

From the couple: Jenn & Allie met during a World Ready Women retreat at their alma mater eight years ago. After the weekend, they promised to hang out again. They finally hung out when they discovered they were going to be RAs together. During the first day of RA training, they snuck away and went to Starbucks together. From then on, they were inseparable BFFs. They took a thousand trips together, got their noses pierced, ate lunch together everyday, and even stood together side by side for over 12 hours to touch Kanye’s hand at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival. Allie went off to grad school at Duquesne while Jenn finished her last year at Chatham, and they were both super excited when Jenn got into The New School. Jenn moved to NYC, went to school and worked at Squarespace– and they visited each other *almost* every weekend. Jenn spent her summers in Pittsburgh and after the second summer decided that she didn’t want to be away from her BFF anymore. Jenn officially moved in with Allie and her sisters, spent every weekend with Allie, and found an amazing Pittsburgh job. Allie went to Ghana and started her PhD. One morning, Allie woke up and realized that she wanted to spend every day for the rest of her life with Jenn. She let her know, and they went and got iced soy lattes and walked around the reservoir to talk about it. So they decided to get a cute little red Prius and officially move in together. They’ve lived happily ever after with their Boston terrier Tulip ever since.

For the engagement, Allie decided to plan a surprise proposal in Amsterdam during their long-awaited European frolic fest. She secretly got in touch with one of Jenn’s friends on Instagram to figure out the best place and a photographer. She also asked all of Jenn’s family and friends to send postcards with what they love about Jenn written on them. The ring was in hand, all she had to do was get her plan together!

On the morning of August 13 (we take our #sundaysareforlovers very seriously!) we were already running late to, what Jenn thought, was a lesiuresly stroll through the park. After finally getting on a train into Amsterdam from our hotel, the train stalled. It was after 10 already, and Allie had arranged for them to meet the photographer there without Jenn knowing. She was freaking out. But she had a plan on the fly.

Allie asked Jenn if she’d like any reading material for sitting on the train. She pulled out the postcard from Jenn’s mom and dad. They both started to cry (sorry to the woman sitting across from us on the train who probably had no idea what was going on!). Allie handed postcards from Jenn’s nephews, brother, and sister-in-law. By the time Jenn finished reading them, the train had arrived at the stop near the park.

After Jenn nearly got hit by a moped, they arrived at Vondelpark. Allie covertly got the signal from photographer extraordinaire, Nicole Olwagen, and simultaneously while following Nicole and leading Jenn without revealing who Nicole was, she started to hand more postcards from Jenn’s family and friends. Jenn and Allie floated to the spot where Nicole lead them, and Allie got down on one knee to ask Jenn to marry her.

After saying yes, and hugging each other, Jenn whispered to Allie that she thought someone was photographing them, and Allie revealed that it was in fact part of the plan, PHEW! Nicole lead Jenn and Allie around for a fabulous photo shoot, and after they enjoyed the biggest Dutch pancakes ever.

They celebrated one week of being engaged with an ultimate #sundaysareforlovers in Paris doing some of their favorite things: breakfast in bed listening to Ella, strolling the streets, and a picnic at the Eiffel Tower park with Allie reading Jenn French love poems. Their wedding is planned for summer 2019, ten years after meeting at Chatham University.

Engagement: Allison & Tiffany

From the couple’s photographer, Cassandra: For Allison and Tiffany, it was love at first sight. Playful, lighthearted, and endlessly making one another laugh, these lovebirds infuse joy in all who surround them.

Our original plans to visit a Nashville park for Allison and Tiffany’s destination engagement were very much canceled when the skies opened up and it stormed the entire weekend. We moved our session to the gorgeous Gaylord Opryland Resort, which featured architectural details, palms, fountains, and even beautiful New Orleans-style buildings — which all made for the perfect location to celebrate their upcoming “I Do’s.”
