Engagement: Rae & Jenn

From the couple: After a glamping getaway in our California hometown – coupled with a surprise engagement…we later embarked on a country-side escape for our idealic engagement photo session. The North Georgia country-scape provided the perfect backdrop to capture our urban-meets-country flair!

Wedding: Alyssa & Amanda

From Amanda: Although Alyssa and I live in Brooklyn, we knew we wanted a fall wedding, and we had envisioned a slightly more rustic setting than New York City. We found the perfect hilltop venue just a few hours north of NYC in Hudson, NY. Hudson is a gorgeous town near the Catskills with amazing views, great restaurants, and stellar antique shopping. It’s also (kind of) between Pittsburgh and Boston, our respective hometowns. We arrived a day early to hang lights and decorate our venue with help from a tireless brigade of friends and family. Our guests mostly stayed in B&Bs in downtown Hudson and had a chance to explore the area over the course of the weekend. The only hiccup … the weekend turned unseasonably cold (it actually snowed the day after the wedding). We had to scramble to rent indoor heaters for our barn venue, and forgo most of the outdoor activities we’d planned. If you can’t tell from the photos, we were freezing by the time it was our turn to take couple shots. At one point, the photographer asked us to put our hands on each other’s faces and we refused because our hands were both icy cold. Otherwise, with the help, support, and love of an amazing group of friends and family, the wedding was a beautiful celebration.

Wedding: Lindsay & Jamie

From Lindsay & Jamie’s wedding planner, Sarah Day: Lindsay and Jamie got me involved after they had stared the planning process on their own and quickly became overwhelmed with not only the details but with the challenges of planning a same-sex wedding. They were, unfortunately, disappointed to discover that many vendors in the area were not very accepting of their marriage. So we tackled one vendor at a time, looking for vendors who not only captured the look and feel of what the brides wanted, but who also were open to and excited about working on a same-sex wedding. I was truly honored by the group of event professionals that we ultimately assembled to bring to life the vision that Lindsay had for her southern wedding. We had our final walk-through at the venue the same week the Supreme Court ruled to legalize same-sex weddings and we were all in tears as we walked through the property and knew that all our hard work was now not just producing a beautiful wedding but a wedding that would be recognized in all 50 states!

Weather can always a be tricky thing to deal with when planning an outdoor wedding. Georgia was under a particularly challenging deluge of rain this fall, but we were not going to let it slow us down. That morning I ran out and scoured the countryside (literally) for matching rain boots for the bridesmaids and as many umbrellas as I could find. We didn’t want to miss any photo opportunities as we were tromping through the mud! Thankfully we also had an incredible photography team that was in the trenches with us and didn’t miss a beat.

From Lindsay: My family is from up north (Pennsylvania, mostly), so we really wanted to throw them a “southern affair” when they visited Georgia. Our welcome bags at the hotel were filled with items from Georgia-based companies, and the favors incorporated Georgia (and my home state of Virginia). The food and decor was also very southern. So we had LEGAL lesbian wedding in small town Georgia. Pretty damn cool if you ask me!

Lindsay & Jamie’s wedding won two Belief IWP Awards— in the categories of Wedding Concept and Special Photo!

Wedding: Jessica & Rebecca

From Jessica: Rebecca and I had a perfect wedding in Benton Harbor, MI. We were amazed by the incredible amount of love and support that surrounded us! And we felt that love 100-fold on our wedding day. This event was truly a community effort. We never could have pulled it off without the help of everyone involved. In lieu of a wedding shower, we invited our family and friends over for a day of eating and drinking and crafting all of our DIY details, decorations and extra special touches.

Our ceremony and reception had a “rustic elegance” feel to reflect our love of outdoor adventure and our awe of nature’s incredible wonders. We were both walked down the aisle by our fathers, one at a time. Our incredible bridal party walked to an instrumental version of “Beast of Burden” and we walked to “Our House” by Crosby, Stills and Nash. We had the absolute honor of being married by Jess’ father. He wrote and delivered a beautiful ceremony that left not a dry eye in the crowd. We wrote our own vows and sobbed our way through them. We ran from the ceremony victoriously, overjoyed that we had actually done it! We had overcome so much to get to that day and it felt incomparable to any amazing feeling ever experienced.

There were so many special touches during the ceremony that made it unique and memorable. Our first dance was “Naive Melody” covered by the Lumineers, then fading into the original Talking Heads version, at which time the rest of the bridal party joined and we danced the night away as our good friend played the perfect songs all night long. Outside, there was bonfire and inside there were 3 beautiful toasts, a delicious meal and all kinds of different pies, generously baked by friends and displayed on gorgeous wooden displays. In lieu of a photo booth, guest were encouraged to use our instant cameras to take photos of themselves and the events of the night. Guests were also encouraged to place words of wisdom on 10 different wine bottles, each to open on a different anniversary. We cut our delicious gluten free carrot cake, danced with our fathers, threw two bouquets and continued to dance until they kicked us out! The day was filled with joy, laughter, happy tears, love and unending support from family and friends. It was perfect.

Wedding: Daisy & Sally

From Helen, Daisy and Sally’s photographer: Daisy and Sally had the most creative and beautiful wedding celebration. Sally’s sister Rosie led a personal humanist ceremony for their friends and family, in a yurt at Sally’s parents’ farm in Cornwall, UK, followed by the most amazing buffet lunch, cream tea and an enormous bonfire to finish! Daisy and Sally both have a real passion for contemporary crafts and an eye for the most beautiful of details. The ampersand motif ran right through the day, including a large wooden version adorning the yurt for the ceremony, and the incredible ‘l’ampersand’ lightbulb version created by Daisy’s dad especially for the occasion. It was a truly amazing day, bursting with love and celebration and an absolute pleasure to photograph.

Wedding: JoJo & Bobbi Jo

From JoJo: Bobbi Jo and I met back in 2009 in a wild summer of long nights filled with friends, fun, and beers. It was one of these nights that there was a hay wagon ride with music and drinks. We kissed and I can safely say the rest is history. In January of 2013 I took Bobbi Jo down to Key West and popped the question. (She said yes!) We started to plan our wedding for June 6th of 2014. Through the planning we started to get frustrated about the small details, what colors and center pieces…etc., making us lose sight of what this day was truly about. All I wanted to think about was the moment I got to say my vows and kiss my bride. We discussed our concerns and decided to change everything. That started with the date– we thought to ourselves, what are we waiting for? Let’s elope! So the date was now set for October 4th, 2013, leaving just two months to throw everything together. My mother and stepfather agreed to host our wedding on their adorable hobby farm in Dennison, MN. We chose this location not only because of its beauty and intimacy, but because it means so much to us and it is a place we both truly felt comfortable. We both decided that having a smaller, more intimate ceremony was important to us. It was a difficult process to widdle down our guest list from 100 something down to 23 people. But when our wedding day came, it was all worth it. Our day was truly about us, our love and our commitment to one another. There were no distractions and the only people there with us were ones who have impacted our lives positively and supported our love. We got to spend every minute of that day together, share in every moment that we will remember for the rest of our lives together. We honestly couldn’t be happier with the way everything went and the choices we made.

From Tricia, JoJo and Bobbi Jo’s photographer: This wedding was such a dream come true for me. I have never witnessed such pure love and adoration in the most beautiful and simpliest of forms. This is how all weddings should be!

Engagement: Jennifer & Shelia

From Jennifer Corbin, Jennifer & Shelia’s photograher: I spent a great afternoon with Shelia and Jennifer photographing their engagement photo shoot. The fall colors were in full bloom and I took advantage of the amazing foliage. Our session started in Oak Glen at Riley’s and then we hit the Snowline for a few more shots. There were a few sprinkles but that didn’t “dampen” anyone’s mood, these girls had me laughing all day. We had a cup of warm cider and more laughing. These two are so sweet together and getting to know them more was such a blast.
