Wedding: Dawn & Jennifer

From Jennifer: On December 31st, amidst a discussion over whether we should stay home or go out for New Years, I gave in and told Dawn if we were going out I had something she might want to wear. I got down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. She said yes! With her engagement ring shining brightly and permanent smiles affixed to our faces we headed out to welcome in a new year and a new chapter of our lives.

The planning began almost immediately and we decided to theme our wedding around the ring finger anchor tattoos we had done in Provincetown the previous year. Luckily summer 2012 was quite nautical and anchor anything was easy to come by. Our wedding ceremony and reception took place on September 8th, 2012 at a private residence in Provincetown, Massachusetts. We traveled to Provincetown from our home in Denver to legally commit our lives to one another, and it was wonderful. Planning an over 2,000 miles from our venue was a challenge, but with the help of family, friends and amazing vendors we did planned the perfect wedding weekend.

We flew in one day before our wedding and while we saw a judge and obtained permission to marry the next day our families were at our wedding venue meeting for the first time. They hung lights, folded napkins and polished glasses like a well seasoned team. That night our parents threw a welcome party so our families and out-of-town guests could get to know one another while eating, drinking margaritas and dancing.

The next day at 5 in the evening and we lined up our wedding party to walk down the aisle. We were escorted by both our mothers and fathers and preceded by our beautiful flower girl, and niece, Naia, siblings and closest friends. Our officiant had prepared a traditional yet personalized ceremony which included a reading of our favorite poem i carry your heart with me by E.E. Cummings. We were announced legally wed and the party began. Guests sipped cape codders and wine on the deck of our venue while the wedding party took pictures. We all decided it was too windy to take pictures on the beach, so we ran across the street where we spotted a vintage teal GMC truck and a garage painted with an Andy Warhol-esqe portrait of Marilyn Monroe on the doors.

Once inside our brother, Andrew announced us with amazing speech and we danced to our band’s cover of Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way that I Am.” We then enjoyed a New England style clam bake dinner with clam chowder, lobsters, steamers, linguicia, and all the fixings- delicious. After that everyone got wild dancing well into the morning. The next day we held a brunch at an oceanfront bar and we all nursed hangovers, laughed over last night’s antics and shared our love. It was the perfect closing to the most amazing weekend of our lives. Our wonderful family made our dream day a reality we had each other.

Wedding: Bianca & Kate

From Organic Photography: Bianca & Kate have been scouring the images, and reading the stories on A Bicycle Built For Two since it’s inception. They loved the way it demonstrated all kinds of love in a visually beautiful and unique way. SO, this was there biggest dream, and request of us as their wedding photographers: besides getting married to each other – they wanted to see their wedding featured here.

Bianca & Kate were married in the town they have come to call home, Provincetown, Cape Cod… On the packed Beach at Race Point with close family and friends gathered around…. It was a cool, sunny October day, and for locals who work straight through June, July & August without a break, well the Fall is a locals summer – it is peaceful and lovely… There is no other place like it in the world… I am a Native Cape Codder and I am proud to have an open, caring, artistic community like no other. We have known people in town forever as friends, but now to be embraced as wedding photographers in this fabulous community is our greatest accomplishment. We always want to capture the personalities and the vibe of the people who are showing the ultimate sign of love – so thank you.

I love the 60′s modern vibe of Bianca and Kate’s wedding and am so flattered that they are such fans of ABBFT – thank you for that tribute.

Organic Photography is a very beloved sponsor of this blog so look at their work and show them some gratitude.

Wedding: Johanna & Amanda

From Daron Jackson: Johanna and Amanda began their wedding day with a morning couples’ yoga session on the spot where they would later be married. It was such a peaceful way to start what turned into one of the sweetest, most relaxed weddings I have ever photographed. The ceremony was intimate and lovely – close family and friends surrounding the couple, facing the sea. Afterwards, everyone celebrated with dinner and dancing at the beautiful home of a family friend.

It was such a joyful and meaningful day!

Sounds perfect, right? Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and this special couple, Daron.

Wedding: Felicity & Alanna

San Diego lesbian weddings are always my favorite and Felicity and Alanna’s is no exception. These two brides met as sorority sisters at college in Ohio but moved to San Diego and decided to host their wedding at Felicity’s mother’s home. This feminine backyard wedding shot by Sweet Little Photographs is what childhood wedding fantasies are made of.

And to top it off their wedding ceremony music consisted of two Brandi Carlile songs.

Wedding: Molly & Amber

Every once in a while I come across a queer wedding that trumps a hurricane that may or may not be spinning out of control outside my windows. So whether or not you are battling Sandy or battling everyday life I think Molly and Amber’s Charleston, South Carolina wedding at Boone Hall Plantation will brighten your day.

I am always a fan of Our Labor of Love. To see more photos from this day go here.

Wedding: Chelsey & Elise

We met almost 7 years ago via MySpace, yes Myspace. We were only 16 years old and Chelsey lived in Arizona while Elise was in northern Indiana. We told a little white lie and were able to meet in person and we’ve been in love since. Eventually we told our families the truth and after a little bit of lecturing our families couldn’t be closer.

On Saturday August, 25th We traveled from our home in Indianapolis to Manchester Iowa to legalize our marriage. Our big wedding will be in a year and a half so this wedding was small and intimate and if I can say, cheap. It couldn’t have meant more to us though. We’re so happy to have a legal marriage and can’t wait to celebrate with everyone and do it right in a year.

Wedding: Sarah & Gloria

My love for the ocean runs deep (our wedding was literally on the water…) so I can completely relate to Sarah and Gloria. But these two took their love to the next step by creating an absolutely gorgeous environmentally conscious (green!) lesbian wedding.

From Sarah: After many dates and picnics at nearby beaches, we decided to tie the knot where our hearts are – right next to the ocean.

When possible, we do our very best to protect the environment, especially the beautiful Northern California Coast. The Seymour Marine Discovery Center is a unique venue nestled right along the coastal cliffs of Santa Cruz, that offers exhibits and aquarium displays to showcase how important scientific research is in maintaining and conserving the world’s oceans.

To follow through with our conservation ethics, we focused on keeping all of our details eco-friendly and educational. Just to list a few, we hired all local vendors to minimize car emissions, used recycled materials for our paper projects, encouraged carpooling, and distributed Seafood Watch cards alongside each place setting to help endangered marine species. Yes, the menu was seafood free, of course.

Initially I was a bit perplexed by the program and cake topper but after a split second I remembered that GENDER IS NOT DEFINED BY ATTIRE.
