Small Wedding: Amy and Renee

From Renee: We live in Florida, a state that has decided to add a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. We wanted to make our marriage legal in a state that allowed it and decided that state would be Connecticut (because they have no waiting period). We have 4 children between us, and lots of friends and family who would have loved to share the day with us, but, because we could not ask them all to fly to CT, we chose to have a very simple ceremony with just the two of us and our officiant (and photographer), Mary Pugh.

We were married on Friday the 13th, 6 years to the day that we met. The ceremony was held at Cherry Lawn Park in Darien, CT. It was a short ceremony. Amy couldn’t last through anything lengthy, she is a bit squishy and had a hard time holding back tears!

We are now planning for our reception to be held at our home in Florida. That will allow us to share our union with friends and family. Our wedding day was the beginning of the next chapter. We have been through struggle and illness and the love we share has helped us make it through, stronger and more committed.

Two Dress Wedding: Ariel + Michelle

Amanda from Boro Creative Visions submitted Ariel and Michelle’s queer Connecticut wedding. In nearly all of the 75 or so pictures that I looked at, they are constantly kissing, touching and looking at each other loving. I fell in love with them instantly. No photo gimmicks, no poses and no self-conscious awareness. To quote Amanda: Love. Is. Beautiful.

PS. Amanda is based in NH but will travel all over New England to shoot your wedding. And she is super sweet.

Connecticut Backyard Wedding: Shannon + Helen

For their same-sex wedding, Shannon and Helen chose the simplicity of their quiet country home in northern Connecticut. Initially planning an indoor event since the weather was still cold that first week in April, they were blessed by a rare 74 degree day, and quickly moved it outdoors. What a beautiful way to start their life together!

Summer (camp) Dreaming…

Helena and Dara are an adorable Brooklyn-based couple who had their wedding at the super fun and adventurous Club Getaway in Kent, CT. During the day their guests enjoyed everything from flying through the air on the trapeze and the zipline, to bumper tubing, kayaking and canoeing on the lake, to swimming and sunbathing by the beach. Helena’s mom made the beautiful chuppah that the couple married under surrounded by their loving families and friends. It came as no surprise that Helena and Dara would have a party to remember. The toasts made everyone cry, even the staff joined in on the dancing, and Helena and Dara were all smiles. Robin Roemer

Major Milestone

Katie and Lisa had loads of personal details all throughout their wedding day, including a buffet of pet treats in honor of their cat and dog. This is my type of wedding – a room full of love, bocce ball, two beautiful dresses (and two beautiful brides) a treat truck, scrabble and a real sense of warmth, fun and timeless, casual comfort.

These lovely photos were shared with me by the talented Angela Gaul of Milestone Images. Seriously, Angela has a great personality and a passion for her craft and her clients. She suggested that I give shout outs to the officiant, Don Gentile and the Stonecroft Inn, which in addition to being a beautiful venue, is a great resource for lesbian couples.

Jess & Rita

Jess and Rita’s civil ceremony in CT was stunning. I love the idea of just sneaking away and legally getting married. It affords the opportunity to focus on the commitment and each other and not the stress of the reception and celebration. After their legal wedding Jess and Rita had a big wedding in New York with friends and family. Ang… I can’t wait for our civil ceremony (the date is being kept under wraps for the rest of you).
