Wedding: Johanna & Amanda

From Daron Jackson: Johanna and Amanda began their wedding day with a morning couples’ yoga session on the spot where they would later be married. It was such a peaceful way to start what turned into one of the sweetest, most relaxed weddings I have ever photographed. The ceremony was intimate and lovely – close family and friends surrounding the couple, facing the sea. Afterwards, everyone celebrated with dinner and dancing at the beautiful home of a family friend.

It was such a joyful and meaningful day!

Sounds perfect, right? Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and this special couple, Daron.

Wedding: Flora & Kristy

From Flora (in the dress): Our lesbian wedding took place on a renovated ferry boat permanently docked in a Marina in the Burrard Inlet, North Vancouver, BC, Canada. Our backdrop was the Pacific Ocean, the North Shore Mountains, and the city skyline. 100 guests came to celebrate our love and the joining of our two families. It was a magical summer night, and we feel so blessed to have had the kind of wedding that we did with so many personal DIY touches, a unique Celtic-inspired ceremony, gorgeous venue, and the loving support of our families and friends- without breaking the bank.

From our ceremony script: This ritual symbolizes the love and commitment you have pledged to one another, and the merging of your lives and the lives of your families and friends into a bonded unit.  And so it is with your marriage, from this day forward you walk together as a powerful force for good, consciously creating a better world with your love.

Wedding: Sarah & Jolyn

From Winnipeg, Manitoba (that’s Canada for those US-centric folks) photographer extraordinaire Brittany: Sarah and Jo got married along the red river amongst all their family and friends, along with their two ‘children,’ their dogs as the ring-bearers. these two hockey players did everything right, from the venue to the decor, this wedding was a dream.

Hockey players? That’s a bit bad-ass. And so is that entrance.

Wedding: Lauren & Stacey

You know I love me a wedding on a boat and Lauren and Stacey’s affair delivers!

These two brides traveled with family and friends all the way from Australia to Vancouver to wed legally. I don’t know what’s more beautiful the brides, the wedding or the photos (by the very talented Nordica Photography).

It’s the love.

Wedding: Melissa & Nathalie

From Nathalie: Melissa is a carpenter now turned bartender and I am a technologist in architecture. We met playing hockey back in 2006 when I was just 15 and Melissa was 21. It took us a little under a year to realize our feelings for each other were much more than just friendship and with a kiss, we got together. We’ve been by each other’s side ever since.

We knew we wanted to get married eventually and it was decided that Melissa would be the one to propose, the only condition being that I didn’t want to see it coming. She proposed on Valentine’s day two years after we got together and of course I said yes. We set the date for October 1st, 2011 and slowly began planning our wedding. We wanted to do a lot ourselves feeling it would make the day even more special and it did! It was a lot of work and planning but we ended up with a great result, even considering the obstacles we encountered (my dad refusing to come, threats from an uncle who didn’t get an invitation and having to change our reception venue with less than a week to go because of an electricity problem).

Our day started with an intimate ceremony of 30 people at the Schoolhouse. All 30 guests including Mel arrived at the ceremony on a city bus rented for the occasion by Mel’s dad. Everyone including us hoped on for the ride back to our reception area. It was a very cold day with a little bit of rain on and off but nothing could have ruined our good mood. We made a stop to take pictures on our way to the reception where we had more guests join us for supper and party (bringing the number of guests to around 120 for the reception). Our DJ did an amazing job and we danced the night away. Many of our guests said they’ve never had this much fun at wedding before! We are so looking forward to the vow renewal we plan on doing for our 10th wedding anniversary.

Lesbian Wedding: Lindsay + Angela

A reader commented that I need to post more butch weddings. And more butch-femme weddings (although I know many soft-butch or butch-leaning women don dresses for their wedding). But in the mean time, I have a gorgeous (I’m still a sucker for one-shoulder dresses) femmie wedding that anyone can appreciate. Photos by Rowell Photography in Ontario. If you are in the area (or going to Canada because same-sex marriage isn’t legal where you live) hire them.

This gorg venue, the The Abbey for the Arts , is an abbey once lived in by nuns (apropos for a lesbian wedding I think).
