Wedding: Brittany & Jen

From Brittany: Being able to marry your best friend is a gift. Jen and I meet 5 years ago and have been dating ever since. Jen finally got the courage and surprised me on May 22, 2012 with the most beautiful ring a girl could ask for. Of course I said yes and began planning my dream wedding. We found a British Pub in Savannah, GA and decided it was the perfect place to say “I do”. So on January 19, 2013 she put on a suit and I put on a dress and we did the damn thing and it was perfect. :)

Wedding: Katie and Anne Marie

From Anne Marie: Gorgeous day (I suppose every bride says that) – outdoor morning ceremony at the gardens at Tudor Place in Georgetown, Washington, DC (the estate of Martha Washington’s granddaughter), followed by a champagne brunch at the rooftop at the Beacon Hotel, Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. Smallish event, about 70 people, which was perfectly sized for us as we were surrounded by our nearest and dearest.

Wedding: Janice and Kristen

(So it’s kind of a good day when I plan as far ahead as dinner.  These two— 21 months, 13 bridesmaids (and a best man!), 1st lesbian wedding ever at Sugarloaf– wow. =) )

-S

From Janice & Kristen: We met just like two typical lesbians would meet in the small community of Portland, Maine…at a bar. We met at Flask Lounge in Portland on July 18th, 2009 and though it wasn’t love at first sight, it wasn’t far off. We became friends quickly, which turned into best friends, then partners, and before long we were engaged. We married on September 29th, 2012 – after planning our wedding down to the final details. It took us 21 months to plan, but we’d spend many nights up late talking about what we wanted and how to keep it on budget (Janice being the budget keeper and me being the big dreamer, or as we like to say “champagne taste on a beer budget”.) But, what we really wanted was a party – one that people would enjoy themselves.

Our first accomplishment was of the party atmosphere was the bridal party – 13 women and 1 best man. It could be a recipe for disaster – or party. I think we lucked out with party time. Our 2nd accomplishment of the party atmosphere was our location. Sugarloaf Mountain, known as the top ski and board spot for Maine and New Hampshire, we were married at the Sugarloaf Inn. Although it rained, we were able to step outside briefly for a few pictures with the fall foliage. We were also the first lesbian couple to wed at Sugarloaf.

I’ll never forget that day, but what helps me most, is our pictures. We had the most amazing photographer, Charity Smith of CSIS Photography. She captured our day, the joy, the laughter, and the emotion of that single day. I hope you enjoy them as well.

Wedding: Ria & Robyn

Angela and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary last week and the majority of our evening consisted of us repeating how quickly time had gone by but also how different our life (singular – our life together) is now than it was two years ago. And then I crashed into bed at about 8:45.

And this past weekend I went to Austin for the second bachelorette party in Austin that I have had the pleasure to attend in less than a month (Austin is the IT place to bachelorette it up apparently).

So things have been busy but I am so excited to get Ria and Robyn’s amazingly gorgeous and inspirational wedding posted.

And the photos. My god the photos.

From Ria: Here’s another New York City Housing Works Bookstore Cafe lesbian wedding to add to your collection!  I must have looked at Amalia & Melissa and Julie & Rebecca’s photos a thousand times! When we were planning our wedding, I loved looking at blogs but felt frustrated that I rarely saw people like us featured. This website was a welcome exception! I am so excited to share our images in this space.

Wedding: Christine & Jamie

From Christine: First, I must say that I visited this website on a daily basis when we were planning our wedding. I loved looking at all the pictures and reading each couple’s story. It was so inspirational to see other couples like us getting married and creating ceremonies that were unique and special.

Our story: We met through friends at a party in Philly. For Jamie, it was love at first sight. It didn’t take long for me to become completely head over heels too, and within a few weeks, we were inseparable. In 2008, Jamie asked if she could keep me forever, and of course, I said YES! We waited until 2012, when civil unions were finally legalized in Delaware, to have our wedding. All of our summers together were spent in Rehoboth, so it seemed like the perfect place for us to have our wedding. We found a gorgeous venue to have a ceremony outside and a dance floor big enough to party the night away.
It was the most amazing day of our lives. Our friends and family had traveled from PA, NY, NJ, WA, and VA to celebrate with us. Our close friend, Tammy, had prepared for months and led us in a ceremony that we created ourselves. It was really important to show everyone that love is love no matter what, and I think we succeeded. Our ceremony has been described to us as the most heart-felt expression of love and commitment they have ever witnessed.

Looking back, there is absolutely nothing we would change. At one point during the reception, we looked around the room to see all types of couples on the dance floor. Love was all around us, and that it is all that we ever really need in life.

Wedding: Cindy and Allison

From Leanne Rose: I met Cindy and Allison during College and from the first time I saw them together roaming the hallways, I knew they had an everlasting bond. Their wedding was on a beautiful late Sunday afternoon in a big white tent with a garden in the background. The best way to describe their wedding was written on the ceremony program. ” It means a great deal to us to have each of you here today. Thank you for witnessing our expression of love for each other through the vows that begin our new life together. We feel that our love stems from our capacity to love deeply, enjoy simply, and to think freely. Our special wish is that you will continue to be part of our lives. Without friends, family, and community we have very little.”

From Allison: We met at work, from that first day we became great friends and had an instant connection. That was eight years ago, we have lived inseparable for 5 years now. During our first year of living with each other Cindy asked my mother for my hand, but not for marriage, but for her blessing. We truly are blessed to have each other and family who are just as happy. She is my best friend, my soul mate, and partner that I get to spend my life with.
