Wedding: Rebecca & Katie

From Rebecca & Katie, #TheLuckyDucketts: The night before we got married our venue called to tell us they had just lost power. Our region was experiencing widespread flooding, wind damage and power outages due to Hurricane Matthew. We took a deep breath and tried to keep it in perspective because although we were running into challenges (delayed vendor arrivals, guests canceling) we knew there were others affected by the storm much more severely than we were.

The morning arrived quickly. Our bride tribe worked at lightning speed to set everything up in order to be ready for our scheduled three o’clock ceremony. We walked out to Patti Griffin’s “Heavenly Day” and as we said our vows, the sun began to come out. One of our good friends performed our first dance song, “Slow Pony Home” by the Weepies. We made the day our own by adding in a Chambong and jumping on stage with the band. At one point a bouquet landed in a chandelier during the bouquet toss (but that wasn’t intentional!).

Delicious food, lots of wood accents and flowers, and quite possibly the best 80’s cover band in the country made our wedding day a dream, but being surrounded by our loving friends and family made it perfect. We had spectacular vendors and people helping us, and we’re beyond grateful for all of the love and support we received. It was truly the most special day of our lives and we’re SO glad to be finally married!

Wedding: Tina & Julie

From Holly Birch, the couple’s photographer: Tina and Julie planned a gorgeous event at the elegant Pear Tree Estate. They chose to seat their friends and family in a semi-circle for the ceremony, with the couple centered under a chandelier of greenery. Tina’s daughters were a large part of the day and ceremony, as well as the couple’s dog Peach.

Tina and Julie’s engagement session was featured on the blog last year. Congrats on a beautiful wedding!

Wedding: Jennifer & Lisa

From Jennifer & Lisa’s photographer: Oh these two ladies! I truly adore this wedding due to the fact both of their families had embraced them with all of their love! Even with the kids, you can see that love did win that day. There was not a dry face I can recall, and even I teared up! Not to mention their wedding portraits were right on the beach—who doesn’t love the beach?

Wedding: Taylor & Taylor

From Jay, the couple’s photographerIt was my pleasure to capture this story for Taylor and Taylor. That’s right, both of these lovely ladies are named Taylor, and their birthdays are two days apart! We met when I was asked to do their engagement photos, where one Taylor proposed to the other! They met in high school in a nursing program, and have since been working as practicing nurses! They found out that not only is nursing their passion, but also each other. Soon they made their wedding plans and I was honored to photograph their wedding!

Wedding: Amy & Amanda

From Amanda: Amy and I have lived all over the country and have friends and family everywhere. We chose to have our wedding in Illinois for a few different reasons: 1) we love Chicago 2) it was legal in Illinois when we started planning and 3) it’s centrally located for guests to fly /drive to. Since we don’t live in Chicago, we needed someone to help us chose vendors and help us through the planning process. Our wedding planner, Lisa Gordon, did a phenomenal job.

Once Amy and I started discussing wedding plans, we quickly came to the conclusion that we wanted something small with lots of charm, simple, and most of all fun. When Lisa sent us the information for Firehouse Chicago, we immediately fell in love with its charm and character. Amy has an outspoken love for spiral staircases and when we saw it lit up, we knew that this was the place for us. We wanted simple decorations and the Firehouse delivered that with their candle and light package. Another great thing about the Firehouse was that we used the courtyard for the ceremony then went directly inside to start kick off the reception. Having the ceremony and reception at the same place made the logistics a lot easier. We chose to have an open bar from the moment guests arrived until the end of the night, which made potentially socially awkward moments early in the night due to some of our guests never having met before less of an issue. The fact that Binny’s will take back any non-opened alcohol allowed us to over-purchase and not worry about running out of drinks.

Amy’s favorite part of the day (besides marrying me and the spiral staircase of course) was riding around downtown Chicago and stopping to take pictures with our bridal party and photographer Agnes Malorny. We have several favorite photos from the day, but our absolute favorite is the one of us standing on a ledge hanging out over the Lake Michigan with the skyline in the background. We had that one printed on 3ft x 1ft piece of metal which is now the focal point in our living room. My personal favorites were the matching converse shoes that we had made with our wedding date sewn into the side and the mini cupcakes that Dave’s Specialty Foods provided. They were SO good. I ate them the next morning and still talk about them today. We don’t have any wedding day horror stories because ALL of the vendors we chose to work with were wonderful. We didn’t have to worry about a single thing that day except enjoying the moment and sharing our love for each other with family and friends.

Wedding: Jennifer & Amanda

From Amanda: As Jen and I approach our first anniversary we discovered we didn’t accomplish something very important on our to-do list. This submission is officially the last check mark from the wedding (better late than never?).

We met as so many tend to: through mutual friends. Though in our defense it was never intended to be a “match,” and we went years before exploring the possibility. As time went by, we continued to see each other every summer at our annual meeting (professional, not hyperbole) and to have fun catching up. Eventually we both found ourselves single…with me shortly moving across the country for a doctoral program. The perfect time to start a relationship! Two years of long distance later, and we are geographically together for good. Now in Tampa, we are loving life and wanting to share our happiness.

Jen proposed in a wonderfully surprising way on our 5 year anniversary. After repeatedly making sure she meant it, I emphatically agreed to spend the rest of my life with her (we both had to be sure). Next step, wedding planning. The general thoughts were easy—gather our families and friends together for an amazing party. Next we had to figure out how to actually plan a wedding. Insert amazing wedding coordinator. We each had a must have: Jen’s was awesome live music, Amanda’s was an unparalleled open bar. Both were seen to be essential in aforementioned amazing party. Insert said coordinator (shoutout Rena Carideo), and voila! Best wedding ever.

We were so happy to show off the city we now love to those that mean the most to us. The day could not have gone better. We were able to be ourselves, stand up with our favorite people in the world, have a wedding officiated by a wonderful friend, drink (and I think we can all agree, all weddings should be solidified with a toast), dance, and celebrate. Perfection.

Wedding: Beth & Liv

From the brides: As today (10/10/16) is our one-year anniversary, we thought it was about time we finally got round to submitting our photos to this lovely site that has inspired us even pre-engagement and all the way up to our wedding day.

We met at 16, in a sixth form college chemistry class, of all places. We fell in love at 17 and 18 when we moved classes and ended up sat next to each other. We used to message each other online every night until we fell asleep and then one day at a friend’s house, in the middle of the night, after an ungodly amount of Irn Bru-flavoured vodka, we kissed.

We moved away to separate universities, with Beth even doing a year abroad. But we never gave up on each other and when Beth moved back to England, we moved in together and adopted a cat.

In 2014 Beth proposed on top of a hill in Devon, in the middle of a ‘gay christian’ retreat. Liv told Beth to close her eyes, then pulled out a ring of her own and asked her right back! Beth nearly fell off the edge of the cliff she was knelt on.

Nearly 6 years after that first kiss, we got married in Richmond, North Yorkshire (UK). We had a fair few naysayers, so it really was a triumph and the whole day was beautiful. We decorated the whole place ourselves, brought in outside caterers (the day was 100% vegan, much to Beth’s carnivore dad’s annoyance), had a great friend do the photography, another friend doing flowers… the whole thing was a massive group effort, and it was so amazing.

We chose to do our own spiritual ceremony first, with our good friends as officiants. We roughly followed a Celtic Christian service but we changed it to suit our tastes and not alienate our guests. After drinks and nibbles the registrar arrived and we did the legal bit too. We danced into the evening with our brothers and an iPod in place of a real DJ, ate far too much gorgeous food including from the pick and mix bar, played board games and finally roasted marshmallows on a fire.

The whole day was perfect and everyone looked so beautiful. One year later and we are so happy in love. We are fostering a dog now, along with a cat, and hope to foster some human children by this time next year. Life is good.
