Wedding: Samantha & Bethan

After posting this plea Sam and Bethan emailed me to say they were mini-mooning in New York City and would love to meet. We met for a cocktail at The Campbell Apartment on a sweltering summer afternoon and ended up chatting the evening away (and sipping several cocktails). This British duo are fantastic and real and hilarious so I am excited to share their lesbian wedding (aka civil partnership).

After their nuptials at London’s Orlean’s House Gallery, Sam, Bethan and their guests boarded a boat and cruised along the Thames to their reception at Landmark Arts Centre (a former church). I kinda love that they were married in a gallery and partied in a church. It suits them perfectly.

Civil Partnership: Bryoni & Dianne

I’m excited to share the photos of Bryoni and Dianne’s lesbian civil partnership celebration because they capture the spirit of the day without so much as one posed or staged photo. You get snippets of the brides but what photographer Kevin Mullins did flawlessly was document love and laughter between looks.

From Kevin: I’ve known Bryoni and Dianne for quite a few years and I was delighted when they asked me to photograph their civil partnership at The Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham. There were many familiar faces at the celebration and I could tell it was going to be a very lively and fun day.

Although it was September by now, the weather was just perfect as Bryoni and Dianne celebrated their partnership overlooking The River Thames.

A champagne reception outside in the later summer sun followed, then a London Route-master took them all off to The Wharf Restaurant in Teddington. A splendid meal and some very funny and touching speeches led to some great shape moving on the dance floor.

As I left I looked back and saw so many people just simply “having fun”. After all the planning and preparation that Bryoni and Dianne put into their special day I know that this is exactly what they wanted.

Samantha + Victoria

When I received this lovely wedding from Samantha and Victoria I was so touched. You don’t know how meaningful your emails are to me (also thank you Vera and Dea for your kind words this morning) - our own wedding is well over but knowing that compiling and sharing these same sex weddings inspires you keeps me going.

Samantha and Victoria were recently married (technically civil partnered) in Camden, London. This is what Samantha wrote in her email:

I’m Spanish from the Canary islands and my wife is an English rose (editor’s note: I’m a little snarky today so that bit about an ‘English Rose’ was a tad much for me but I know you are fresh off your wedding so I am letting it stay in). We live in London. All through last year whilst we were planning and getting ready for our ‘civil partnership’ (we call it wedding in Spain!) I took comfort and inspiration from your blog, especially when I felt rubbish because I was having a bad day at work or I fretted about getting into a dress big enough for my lovely figure. Victoria and I would like to share some photos with you and your readers. We only want to make someone smile for a few minutes and realise that lesbian weddings are quite ordinary affairs at the end, really. We had such a lovely day and all our friends were fantastic

South Wales Lesbian Wedding: Denise & Jade

When South Wales wedding photographer Simon Gough sent me these photos of Denise and Jade’s wedding (civil partnership in the UK, blah, blah) I couldn’t find one picture without their arms wrapped around each other. The photographs are gorgeous, the brides are gorgeous and the setting is gorgeous (we need more castles in the US). But it’s seeing these women in constant contact that makes me swoon.
