Wedding: Tracy & Danielle

From Danielle: Tracy and I originally met about 4 years ago through mutual friend groups. At the time we both were seeing other people. We reconnected a year and a half ago and this time we were both single. It was our fast-thinking mutual friends who planned a group outing that allowed our friendship and relationship to grow. We went on a hike with our dogs on Memorial Day of 2015 and have been together ever since. January was not the original plan for our wedding, but November 8th changed everything. Our wedding was not an act of fear, but an act of love and solidarity. Being able to celebrate our love in front of family and friends was one of our favorite parts of the day. The day was so laid back and drama free that we would both do it all over again. Tracy and I planned a wedding in 52 days on a $1,500 budget. Our advice: do what makes you happy. We omitted being walked down the aisle, father/daughter dances, unity symbols, traditional ceremony scripts, etc., and our day was amazing and filled with so much love and joy.

Wedding: Stacey & Kat

From the brides: Kat and Stacey had a Greek-themed wedding at their home in Maryland. They tried to incorporate all things they love—their children, horses, fire, friends, poetry. They unwittingly picked the coldest weekend in October, but that did not stop friends and family from camping and celebrating until the wee hours of the morning.

Wedding: Nancy & Wendell

From Carolina, Nancy and Wendell’s photographer: I don’t typically shoot weddings – but when a special story comes along, sometimes you just can’t resist. I know Nancy and Wendell from my Crossfit gym and throughout the last couple of years I’ve seen their relationship model what love is for the rest of us. They’re strong, compassionate, loving and dedicated to each other. After 20 years together, I was honored to be asked to capture Nancy’s proposal, and even happier when they asked me to photograph their wedding.

Nancy and Wendell wanted to make sure the wedding was special and that guests had a great time. So, when the first venue fell through because it would make having an epic party difficult, it seemed only fitting that their dear friends offer to hold the wedding on their beautiful property in the southern hills of Eugene, Oregon.

Now, this is Oregon… so, rain is a possibility, especially in early June. But Mother Nature was simply smiling on them and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! And rightfully so. Unsure about the future of same-sex marriages in Oregon, they originally had their legal ceremony in Washington. But just weeks before this day, Oregon overturned their ban, making this celebration so much sweeter. As Nancy made her way down the aisle, after waiting so many years, there was so much love among everyone there, not a dry eye in the house. Even mine… and that’s difficult when you’re also shooting.

And so we all gathered, nestled in the woods, under a canopy of green, with lights, music, delicious champagne, and partied until late into the night.

I wish Nancy and Wendell a lifetime of love and happiness. I thank them again for entrusting me with documenting one of the most special days in a couple’s life.

Wedding: Daisy & Sally

From Helen, Daisy and Sally’s photographer: Daisy and Sally had the most creative and beautiful wedding celebration. Sally’s sister Rosie led a personal humanist ceremony for their friends and family, in a yurt at Sally’s parents’ farm in Cornwall, UK, followed by the most amazing buffet lunch, cream tea and an enormous bonfire to finish! Daisy and Sally both have a real passion for contemporary crafts and an eye for the most beautiful of details. The ampersand motif ran right through the day, including a large wooden version adorning the yurt for the ceremony, and the incredible ‘l’ampersand’ lightbulb version created by Daisy’s dad especially for the occasion. It was a truly amazing day, bursting with love and celebration and an absolute pleasure to photograph.

Wedding: Aubree & Nicole

There is nothing better than two people in love. Aubree and Nicole celebrated their gorgeous DIY wedding in Maryland. The ladies chose silver and navy decor pieces with touches of vintage burlap. The enthusiasm during their vows and exchange of rings was electrifying, with most guests tearing at their thoughtful spoken words. Post dinner, Aubree and Nicole cut into their wedding pie (hooray for no cake) before sharing in some celebratory cigars and old school dancing. Overall a truly gorgeous and heartfelt wedding and a kick ass party to celebrate the day!

Wedding: Andrea & Elizabeth

From Elizabeth: Andrea and I met in 2009 while attending the University of Minnesota’s MFA program. In the years since, we’ve acquired the cutest poodle and purchased a home. Marriage was the obvious next step.
While we wanted our wedding to be an expression of our love, we really just wanted the chance to hang out with our family and friends. Our ceremony was small and the reception was held in my mother’s backyard, just north of Des Moines. The food was amazing and the pictures turned out great. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Engagement: Michelle & Leah

Michelle & Leah get hitched in just 4 short months!  Can’t wait to see the wedding photos. =)

We met each other for the first time at a poetry event Michelle was performing at. Fast forward to about 4 months later and Michelle noticed a familiar face moving into her apartment complex 2.5 hours from where they first met! The complex only had 9 apartments, was difficult to discover and Leah had moved to Fayetteville, AR on a whim.

After a few months of tip-toeing around the should we/shouldn’t we/do we/don’t we like each other thing. Eventually the decision was made: we should and we do.

Michelle won these engagement photos from a blog contest with Lissa Chandler Photography. We took the photos at a friend’s personal peony garden, which has some peonies only 3 people in the world grow! Getting our engagement photos was an amazing opportunity we wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.
