Engagement: Anna & Kristen

From Anna: Kristen and I met at one of the most conservative universities in America. She joined my household (“prayer sorority,”) and we became quick friends. After a few months, we developed strong romantic feelings for each other. We became a couple and had to keep our relationship secret. Keeping our relationship secret for an entire year was horrible! But we knew if we came out, we would lose our on-campus housing and I would not graduate.

After that first year we decided that living our love openly and freely was more important than staying in the closet out of religious fear. So, we “came out,” moved across the country to Portland, and never looked back! We became officially engaged after four beautiful years together. We have beautiful vintage engagement rings that we wear proudly in honor of gay couples who could not marry in the past. It has been a long road with disapproving religious relatives, but most have come around to see the beauty of our love.

We are currently planning our wedding for next summer. I fall more and more in love with Kristen every day that goes by! We have been through so much together and our love is truly such a rare and beautiful gem. Words cannot describe how lucky I am to hold her hand each day, knowing she will soon be my wife. I cannot wait to marry her.

Carae Domini “prayer sorority” at that very same university in a different year here…so glad you two found each other despite the repression there. You are adorable. Wishing you all the love and luck Dave and I have had since meeting there and falling in love about 30 million years ago. <3
