Wedding: Christina & G

From Christina: We met at a karaoke event for butch identified queers. As a femme, I thought I would volunteer to support a group of fabulous butches, and ended up meeting the butch of my dreams. Three years later, we had an amazing, queer, Mexican wedding. Complete with a mariachi band and traditional Mexican food.

We really tried hard to find a venue that would balance the casual atmosphere we wanted, but still be beautiful and capture the landscape that the San Francisco bay area has to offer. We found the MLK Regional Shoreline Center, which has a small glass building, looking out on to the Oakland Hills with beautiful views of the bay.

We had a late afternoon, outdoor wedding surrounded by almost 130 amazing family members and friends. We wrote our own vows, had a very close friend officiate, and one of my best friends walked me down the aisle. Even with 130ish people there, it felt intimate.

Most of our vendors were either close friends or members of our community. It was very important for us to spend our money in the queer, community and also, in our beloved Oakland.

We ate, drank, and danced late into the evening. It was a glorious day!

Who did the suits? They’re awesome!

D – the suits were by Men’s Wearhouse. G’s suit is a Jones New York tuxedo and they did the alterations there (that one was purchased, not rented). We had to buy the vest at a bridal store, because Men’s Wearhouse didn’t have the apple green that G wanted.

The other tuxes were rented from Men’s Wearhouse. They were Calvin Klein, I think, and the vests/ties were “Sangria” colored.
