Wedding: Jordan & Meredith

This post is extra special to me because Roberta’s Pizza is a favorite of ours. When Angela and I moved in together we lived in Bushwick and frequented Roberta’s. It was right down the street, it is delicious and it has the best fried chicken in the world. Bushwick wound up being a little too cool for me (read: I wasn’t cool enough for it) but hipster neighborhoods often mean great dining and atmosphere and Roberta’s delivers on those accounts. What a fantastic place to have a wedding reception.

From Jordan and Meredith: After five years together, we decided it was time to tie the knot. We knew we wanted something low key, with only a few requirements: New York as the setting, a great dance party, and pizza as the main course.

We got married on a Friday at the Manhattan City Clerk’s Office, with only our two best friends as witnesses and our immediate family in attendance. The next day we threw a dinner and dance party for family and friends at Roberta’s in Brooklyn– famous for their incredible pizza!

We kept decorations simple. Flowers were from the local bodega. Escorts cards and table numbers were all handmade from leftover invitations. We lucked out with an unseasonably warm November night, and guests enjoyed cocktails outdoors by the fire pits, before dinner was served inside a heated tent adorned with tons of candles and twinkly lights.

Because we didn’t have a public ceremony, we wanted to include some more formal, scheduled elements as part of the dinner. Jordan’s mom & dad provided a wonderful welcome and blessing at the start of dinner, and a handful of friends closed it out with some thoughtful and hilarious toasts.

The rest of the night was all about dancing. Our DJ was amazing, and kept everyone on the dance floor. It was exactly the dance party we dreamed of.

We only gave ourselves three months to pull everything together, and were thrilled with how it turned out. We kept the traditions we wanted, and made our own unique versions of other elements. We ended up with a celebration that reflected our selves and relationship perfectly.

Roberta’s also happens to be the home of this. Photographs by Samantha Gore.
