I try to steer clear of politics on this site because it’s a blog about weddings and as many of you know, marriage SHOULD NOT BE A POLITICAL ISSUE. Unfortunately, it is a political issue and Washington state is putting marriage equality on the ballot this Fall (good thing) to be voted on by the people (bad thing IMO… civil liberties should just BE, not be voted on).
In light of this huge step for Washington and our country, I received the following submission from Ricki.
Susanna and I fell in love performing together in Provincetown, MA as our burlesque/drag personas, Kitten and Lou. We told everyone it was just a “showmance,” but just couldn’t stop seeing each other when we returned to Seattle! I asked Susanna to marry me this summer. She said yes, but is adamant that we wait until after the results of the November elections to make any wedding plans. If Referendum 74 passes, Washington will be the first state to instate marriage equality by popular vote. Instead of an engagement shoot, we decided to make a short video to encourage voters to choose yes on 74 — because marriage equality matters. And because I want to plan a wedding with the love of my life!
Clare also emailed to ask if she could borrow a photo from the blog for a post she was writing to encourage her friends and family to vote to approve marriage equality in Washington. After receiving Mandy and Aleyna‘s permission, this fantastic piece was the result.
Everyone everywhere please take the time to patiently and politely explain to those that will listen, why marriage equality matters.

Thank you so much for this post!!! I truly believe that R-74 will pass, however, the bad guys are about to flood the airwaves with hundreds of thousands of dollars in ads. I just saw my first reject 74 sign a few blocks from my home… the hate is out there and we can only fight it with love! The “Yes on 74″ campaign has some amazing commercials airing right now… which includes republicans saying why we should pass R-74.
Marriage isn’t about some book, it’s about love, commitment and family. Plus, it’s not like we’re going anywhere! Regardless of the outcome, we will continue to fight until everyone has the right to marry.
Thank you so much to the couple in the video and to you, Tracey. It’s sad that the public can vote on whether I can get married…. but when we win, it will be that much sweeter!!!
That video is just the CUTEST! How perfectly adorable are these two!
I extend hugs from Canada for those struggling with this nonsense in America. <3
Hugs are appreciated!
Thank you so much for helping to spread the word! For those of us here in Washington looking to get involved, the campaign to Approve 74 needs help EVERY SINGLE DAY! Whether you’re able to help with office work, phone banking to get out the vote, or fundraising, we need your help!
Check out the details here: http://washingtonunitedformarriage.org/get-involved/
@marley thank you for letting us know how we can help.
Thank you for posting about this! It’s been wonderful to see Seattle come together around R-74, but I’m nervous about the rest of the state. For now, I’m finding comfort and inspiration by all the supportive signs, bumper-stickers and friends.
I feel for Washington! We are rooting for you 100% in California!! This feels eerily like our Prop 8 bullshit! BUT IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME!! It CANNOT be!! YOU have smarter people up there lol And Charlene Strong and the likes of such fighting hard! Give it to ‘em!!!
@Tami ♥
You people are wrong. This is disgusting.
@mike thank you for checking out our blog. “disgusting” isn’t particularly profound but your opinion is noted.
