Proposal Story: Lucas & Kristin

When I received this email from Lucas I was giddy with excitement and sentimental with the memories that it brought back of my own engagement night.

Tracey, I am SO in love with this blog that it has inspired me to plan a pop the question surprise dinner party at this really cool restaurant in Downtown Winston Salem NC with 25 of our closest friends. She has NO idea, only that I am taking her out on the town just her and I. So as you can imagine, I’ve been lying to her for three weeks now!! I have been with my girlfriend for almost two and a half years and of course there were a number of things leading up to this moment but YOUR BLOG was and is a highlight. In fact, I was so inspired by all of the boi clothing, I went and bought a pair of black Chucks for the event!! This blog has given me so many ideas and I can’t wait to submit our engagement night with you. Keep up the good work!! I know that I run the show with asking my beloved to marry me and now she will run the show with the wedding plans! That’s the way it works in our house. Again, many thanks for inspiring me to create one of the most fantastic nights ever!! -Lucas

I responded with very heartfelt enthusiasm, encouragement and congratulations and a few days later I received this even more wonderful email sharing the history of this sweet lesbian couple and detailing the proposal event…

A Boi Meets Girl Engagement Love Story

Kristin and I met online and thankfully we only lived an hour away from each other so we met in person a week after we connected.  We planned a “stages” date which meant we had four events scheduled throughout our day and if we liked each other after event one then we would move to event two and so on.  Needless to say after four wardrobe changes and 12 hours we’ve been together ever since.

Kristin and I live by the philosophy of being unattached to outcome. This doesn’t mean not committed but rather being open to whatever the future has in store for us and working through things in every moment. It means choosing every day to love each other more than the day before.  Some days it’s a tiny bit more and other days it’s a whole bunch more but throughout the highs and lows, the consistent thing between us is a deep, sacred and abiding love for one another. We’ve been together for just over two years and live together and I had come to the conclusion that I wanted to take our relationship to the next level.

Kristin loves surprises but it’s VERY hard to surprise her because I always cave in and tell her!!  But this time was different and I was determined that I would be strong enough to keep it a secret.  I found the perfect ring and started planning a surprise pop the question dinner party with 25 of our friends at this cool restaurant in downtown Winston Salem.  The only thing she knew was that I was taking her out to dinner, she had no idea of the rest. When we walked in and she saw everyone gathered together I explained that this was a dinner party for her since she had been giving me a hard time about us not being as social as she wanted us to be.  She bought it!!  We went around the room greeting people and after we all ordered dinner, one of our good friends got up and said a beautiful blessing.  Then I got up and proposed a toast, thanking everyone for coming and talking about the way in which Kristin and I love each other.  Then I backed up slightly and put one hand behind my back so my friend sitting behind me could slip the ring box into it.

I got down on one knee and her tears were unstoppable!!   I told her that her heart was in my safekeeping and that nothing would honor or humble me more than if she were to one day become my wife.  Then I opened the box and asked her to marry me.  I think it was a tenth of a second before she said yes!!!  Our friends gave us a huge round of applause and we spent the rest of the evening celebrating. We have not set a date yet because we want to bask in this engagement time and plan our ceremony with great care.  We are each other’s beloved and are truly blessed to share this life together.  Blessed be…..we!

Lucas and Kristin, I am so thrilled for you and all your friends that were (are) lucky enough to share your joy!

This is gorgeous! Brought tears to my eyes. Exactly what I needed after getting a curt ‘p*** off’ email from my local politician in reply to my email about marriage equality.
    Love conquers all.
    Thank you.
