Martha’s Vineyard Lesbian Wedding

I know I said it was a week of Blue Olive Photography weddings but I just got this one in and I couldn’t resist (we will pick back up tomorrow with the others)!

Julia and Maresa’s wedding was held at one of my favorite places in the world: The Harbor View Hotel (Ang, we need to go there). The beautiful photos were shared with me by the insanely talented, Martha’s Vineyard based, Joe Mikos.

We were married in Edgartown, MA on Martha’s Vineyard. It took us about fifteen months to plan, as having a destination wedding, even so close to home, took lots of preparation and booking in advance. We didn’t really have a specific theme, though we wanted our friends and family to experience the relaxed, New England atmosphere that we both love on the Vineyard. Our rehearsal dinner was a barbecue in a grange hall, an historic building on the more rustic side of the island, and our ceremony and reception was in the more traditionally preppy town of Edgartown with views of a beautiful harbor.

Our friends and family literally came from all over the world, from Europe and Hong Kong and Australia as well as from both east and west coasts with a large contingent from Texas. Introducing everyone to the Vineyard and spending time together in the towns and on the beaches was a fantastic way to be together for more than just the reception and meals.

The week before our wedding, we found out that the live band would not be allowed to use any amplification due to the local police force cracking down on archaic bylaws. How would our 160+ guests be able to hear the band, especially at an outdoor reception? Luckily, the band was game and so were our guests, as everyone sang all the songs together from Motown to more recent numbers. The dance floor was packed the entire night and I don’t think anyone even noticed there weren’t any speakers blasting music.

Julia and Maresa recently gave birth to their first child, little baby Mac. Congratulations; Mac is beautiful!
